LSU opened the College World Series with a strong all-around performance, riding a dominant outing from sophomore left-hander Kade Anderson to a 4-1 win over Arkansas Saturday night at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
Anderson allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out seven and throwing 100 pitches to earn his 11th win of the season. The Tigers jumped ahead early with a three-run second inning and tacked on a key insurance run in the ninth.
Arkansas starter Zach Root struggled out of the gate, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks in just 1 2/3 innings before being lifted with the bases loaded.
Right-hander Abe Gaeckle was a bright spot in relief, escaping the second-inning jam and striking out a career-high 10 batters over a career-long six innings while surrendering just one run on three hits. Offensively, the Razorbacks were limited to three hits, with Reese Robinett’s solo homer in the sixth providing their only run.
