The Brewers used the 20th overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft on one of college baseball’s top power threats, selecting Tennessee corner infielder Andrew Fischer.
A left-handed hitter, Fischer packs plus raw power into a strong 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame, generating bat speed loft and loud contact to all fields. He backed it up last summer in the Cape Cod League, showing he could elevate with wood bats, and then took another step forward as a junior by refining his approach. After chasing far too often in previous seasons, Fischer cut down on his swing and miss, leading to more consistent impact.
That growth translated into a monster season at Tennessee. Fischer earned first-team All-SEC honors after reaching base in all 65 games and slugging 25 home runs, the second-most in a single season in program history behind Brewers prospect Blake Burke’s 34 in 2024. He also tied the school record with 63 walks. Fischer hit .341 with 16 doubles, 65 RBIs and 70 runs scored, leading Tennessee in runs, RBIs, homers, walks, extra-base hits, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Fischer’s bat is his carrying tool, but questions remain about his defensive home. Though he has solid arm strength, he’s a fringy athlete with below-average speed and limited range. He’s played mostly first base for Tennessee this spring and profiles there long term, though he did see time at third base and even some second during the Cape Cod League.
