Peter Kussow was locked in Thursday night, reinforcing why he’s regarded as Wisconsin’s top MLB draft prospect. Pitching in front of more than a dozen scouts, the Arrowhead (Wis.) right-hander showed the kind of stuff that gives him a strong chance to hear his name called in the first five rounds of July’s draft.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound righty is a highly projectable arm with a smooth, low-effort delivery from a three-quarters slot. On Thursday, he touched 96 mph with his fastball and paired it with a sharp curveball. His ability to spin the breaking ball and command it in any count led to plenty of swings and misses, while his aggressive approach in the zone kept hitters off balance throughout.
Scouts rave about his pitchability, highlighted by his ability to sequence pitches, spin a quality breaking ball and demonstrate advanced command for his age. His physical upside and poise on the mound only add to the excitement surrounding his potential.
Kussow delivered again on Thursday, tossing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. The only baserunner he allowed came on a comebacker that he briefly mishandled.
Throughout the spring, Kussow has consistently sat 93–96 mph and touched 97, including a dominant no-hitter earlier in the season.
