Nebraska opened NCAA Tournament play with a 4-1 win over South Dakota State on Friday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
Carson Jasa allowed one run on five hits across 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight to improve to 10-2 on the season. J’Shawn Unger earned his 13th save after tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Dylan Carey paced the Huskers offensively, going 3 for 3 with a home run, while Jett Buck finished 2 for 4 with a double, homer and two runs scored.
Nebraska broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning on RBI hits from Trey Fikes and Mac Moyer. South Dakota State trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the seventh before Carey and Buck hit solo home runs in the eighth to seal the win.
Nebraska improved to 43-15 and advanced in the Lincoln Regional, while South Dakota State fell to 24-32.
